hey all, what have you been up to? i've been doing some knitting... big surprise no? i originally planned on *finishing* Jarrett this weekend, and by most project-standards, i should have. its just that this particular pattern is so riddled with finishing details that i overestimated my abilities for weekend knitting. and i may have also been suffering from a little new-project-distraction (you know how that goes.)

but don't get me wrong, i'm loving all the finishing on jarrett - the shoulder patches (seaming through four layers of fabric, wooh!), button bands, buttons, awesome collar, elbow patches, lots of seaming... here's how it all looked sometime late last night:

Jarrett finishings
laid out flat as best as possible....

i finished both button bands and slipped stitched them down to the body before going unconscious. theres nothin like a little late-night-knitting to make for a good nights rest.

now, about the newer knitting... raspy is a perfect project for when i dont want to count, measure or really concentrate. i'm modifying the pattern for knitting in the round (to the armholes at least) and, with no waist shaping, its a whole lot of denim stockinette on addis. quick and mindless. i knit pretty much the entire bus ride to and from philly this weekend, and we can definitely see some serious results.

the 'before the weekend' shot:

Raspy Early Progress

and after:

Raspy Progress

its funny to think that, before i finish one sweater, i can be so far along on another. the denim feels great and looks great, although it is wreaking havoc on my right pointer finger (i'm a 'thrower') - feels great to go back to wool after a couple hours with the denim's ministry of pain.

and finally, to show a new and wonderful aqcuisition. do you have yarns that you really want to use, but will never buy unless you find them on super sale? this is how i am with most things rowan. i've been wanting to knit with yorkshire tweed dk for a looong time, but won't spend the money on it (8-9 bucks a skein for 123 yards? i'm very much a bargain shopper and this doesn't fly). anyway, i frequent ebay for a couple of yarns every so often, just in case. well, the ebay gods smiled on me because i got a full bag of yorkshire tweed in the exact color i've been looking for ... for 49 bucks!

Yorkshire Tweed DK (Revel)
rowan yorkshire tweed dk in 'revel'

the color on my monitor at home is true, but on my work-monitor is off. but its a deep reddish purple (very warm) with flecks of blue and red. i've been cooking up a sweater design for some time that calls for this color. theres nothing stopping me now but the already too-large sweater queue. this one may jump up a few places on the list though...

we'll see

Comments:

woo! i can't wait to see a finished Jarrett! And you are really far into Raspy, which is great. I still want to make Raspy myself.

I love the colorway of the yorkshire tweed. Yum!

raspy is such a great sweater. i especially love the dropped stitch details near the top. does the denim dye get all over your hands when you knit with it? i've heard other people have had the blue finger problem :)

Yorkshire Tweed is SUCH an excellent yarn. I'm using it right now for Brocade (found mine on sale, too!) Godspeed on the Jarrett finishing. Sounds like a lot of work but when it all comes together, it'll be awesome.

Soo close! I can't wait to see it done, but don't distract yourself too much with Raspy.

You really are making great progress on Jarrett. Finishing is never the fun part but it will be worth it when you're all done.

The Yorkshire Tweed was a great score. What do you think you'll do with it?

Dude, you are the fastest knitter! Jarrett looks great, also! and the Yorkshire tweed? Lovely color! I know what you mean about Rowan, I do that ebay thing too! I just do a search every couple of days and stuff seems to pop up at just the right time!

I love the tweed, such beautiful colors! Looking forward to see what you make with it. Your other two projects are looking great as well! Personally, collars and button bands are my downfall... :)

Jarrett looks fantastic. I can't wait to see it finished. You totally knit things my little brother would wear (well, not the shawl, but I still love that!). I hope he doesn't get anymore ideas for sweaters from your site...I have a lot on my knitting plate already!

Hello,
Je suis française (French) and I don't speak English ! Sorry !
But your blog is very good !
Bravo j'adore toutes les photos et les tricots présentés !

Hey! Thanks for adding me on Flickr!

Boy, you're fast!!! And the photos are gorgeous! (well, what else would expect from a Nikon D10?)

Enjoy the seaming: I love how increases and decreases line up perfectly when one sews a garment together. Looking forward to the usual high-qual photos of Jarret & Raspy.

Your cheerful disposition gives me good vibes to keep on with my own knitting, even though I'm not so speedy.

Lastly, quick question: how does the P.C. baby cashmere compare to the baby silk? Thanks!

da'am you are one faaaast knittah!

Love the tweeds...you sure know how to pick 'em!

Wow Raspy is going fast! The bus is great for two things - knitting time and reading!!

That yorkshire is such a gorgeous color - good find. Can't wait to see what you have planned for it.

i am french and i don't speek english.i love your photos and you knits are fantastics.maryvonne

you are in a groove! everything is flying off your needles, what are you drinking?!

jarret is coming along nicely, can't wait for modeled pics. I love the shade of blue of your raspy. and yay for more rowan!

random comment brought to you by tnna

Love your stuff! I'm currently knitting raspy as well, but with the original rowan yarn (yeah, well, over here it's hard to get the alternatives you know ...). Curious to see how yours turns out!

By the way, you should keep your eyes open for all the yorkshire tweed yarns as Rowan is discontinuing that line end of August! Many online stores are already offering great prices on the yarns, and ebay stores like Cucumberpatch already have them on sale (they sell discontinued yarns at very nice prices!).

Enjoy knitting!

Ditto with Kenny - How do you do knit so fast? Also would love to hear your photo tips. Impressive, as always. . .

I just have to tell you. I have never enjoyed a blog as much as yours.
I haven't even spent a whole lot of time with it...but what I have has
been wonderful. I found you on the men who knit site when a fellow
knitter saw your blog and called it to my attention.

I'm a 35 yo..male knitter who looks for inspiration where he can get
it....and I thank you for providing a lot for me as of late.

Thank you and keep up the good work.
Gabriel

I have been meaning to ask you about the denim... so it's goo, it knits up great, but it's painful to knit with? Hmmm. But worth it?

Your Rowan score is gorgeous!

OK, have to correct that typo... goo was supposed to be Good

You're such a fast knitter!! It'd take me ages to get through that much stockinette- in denim to boot! Can't wait to see what the purple tweed becomes!

oh, the yorkshire tweed does look like a dream. even in june. the photography on your site is just dreamy. yes, i think yarn is dreamy.

Wow! How can you knit so fast?!
I've been here a few times, looking at your work but it's the first time I leave a message.
Your projects are amazing! I'm really happy to see a man knitting and doing such great things as you are.
I'll definitly be back!
